Nikki Jacobs and Trish Notcutt have worked together in Community Dance Programmes for over twenty years. Together they have formed The Dance Project to bring skills and opportunities to communities that lacked facilities, opportunities and suffered financial constraints.

In 1998 one of their pupils, Mercia Nkonyana(middle) joined Trish and Nikki on the teaching staff.

The project aims to extend the experience of its students and specifically:
1. It strives to serve all young age groups in the community in dance.
2. To keep costs to a minimum. No student is turned due to financial restraints.
3. It offers variety through exposure to Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Pantsula, gumboot, Afrojazz, etc.
4. It prepares learners using professional dance training methods.
It always ensures learners are always given correct formal warm-ups and correct stretching exercises.
5. It prepares students for public performances, festivals, competitions.
6. It encourages its members to take the knowledge and experiences gained from here and return them to the community
